Remembering Jack

*** Trigger Warning - Adolescent Death ***

There are seasons that are busier than others, I am certainly in a busy season at the moment. It has been a flat out month for work - the Makers Bundle, Curio is being release in Make Modern Magazine next month, there was advertising to design, socials to maintain, getting Stargazer over the line. The kids have had school camps, award ceremonies, the flu, therapy... it's been a lot.

After a full weekend I had planned to conquer my to do list yesterday, but instead I parked my butt on the lounge and tried to quilt Stargazer while sobbing for the majority of the day. A little over a week ago while on Facebook, I saw a heartbreaking post from Incidents NSW (if you're an Aussie you know). An adolescent had died in a house fire, those posts always devastate, but they are still removed from your own life. Then the news came from school that a member of our community had died suddenly over the weekend. Still the penny did not drop. But yesterday was Jack's funeral, Jack had been the one to die in that fire.

For anyone who takes the time to read this blog, you will know I have a disabled son - Alex. He goes to a SSP school (school for special purpose), as you can imagine the school is small and we have a tight community. Bonded through unique life experiences, when one grieves, we all do. So when I do eventually release the Dear Heart pattern, which was already to be a fundraising pattern, it will include a special dedication to Jack.

Jack, Alex will miss you. The whole community will miss you. Our prayers are with your family, you were taken far too soon.
