For all of your Possums following along at home here is the February show and tell from the Orbit Quilt Sew Along! In an exciting turn we have another sewist joining in on our journey, AND, it is the one and only Orbit Temperature Quilt (I think next year I am going to have to do a temp quilt).
This month I encouraged the participating ladies to send in a few words as well about their journey with this quilt. So much nicer to hear directly from the sewer involved I think.
Introducing Lee and her AMAZING temperature quilt!

"I've not attempted a temperature quilt before but am looking forward to seeing how the colouring will develop. I’m hand piecing using the templates ordered from @houseofjackson and love that it gives me one thing I can sit and do at the end of the day. I had to play catch up with January and didn’t enjoy it as much as being able to join each daily block in turn. It’s also easier for me to keep the WIP rolled up in the project box than to have numbers pinned on blocks in waiting. I tried for a rainbow of brights, allocating one or two temperatures per shade and to have the lowest temp on the left and the highest on the right... sometimes I had to flip directions from the pattern in January before I learnt that the direction of a half rectangle when cutting can make a difference."
Poor Shameaka is suffering from a condition known as "life", sadly no time for sewing but she is looking forward to next months blog where she will have hopefully caught up.

Here is the last photo I have of her vibrant wax print Orbit.
Jenny's beautiful what calls to me Orbit Quilt.

"The celebrations were not over yet, we had the birthday of the youngest (the yellow one) and the 50th wedding day anniversary of my parents. The last one is the same fabric as my daughters birthday. I was in doubt if I would only put in the special days of "our home", or more. But 50 years of marriage, well, that's very special! So I now decided I will make this decision as I go.
I use the big pieces for specials, so they would stand out more.
Today will be my cutting day. I like to have my fabrics ready for basting. Because some days I have a lot of time and some I don't. Or feel bad because of my medication. We almost left the winter behind us, so the temperatures will go up and the flu will disappear!
I worked on this quilt every day for the last two months, but it will be a challenge to keep doing this for the next ten... I still love my chosen fabrics and now I can see it building up, it will look lovely."
And of course my Orbit quilt, which I fall more and more in love with each month.

I think the best thing about this month was I finished up with my templates that had be pre marked out with the iron off pen. Don't get me wrong, it made and AMAZING line that didn't rub off like the sewline ceramic / chalk pencil, but not being able to iron my blocks before joining was a nightmare. I keep petting the four square block shown above, the points are nearly perfect and I am soooo happy with the colours and alignment. Only one birthday in Feb for us, mine. I selected a segment from the new Ruby Star Society daydreamer(?) print. I love unicorns and mushrooms!!!

I have been so busy in the (graphic) design studio I had to barricade myself in on Sunday just to make sure I caught up to date all things Cake & Ale. I wrote a blog about a pincushion, sent out a newsletter then rewarded myself with a few hours of hand sewing. I think my eyes were bleeding and my brain was mush afterwards, but it was the nicest afternoon I have had in a while!
I am so excited for the end of this month! I sectioned my quilt into months three across and four long, so by the end of March it will be full width. My littlest is turning 10 this month next week as well, she has already raided the stash to find her birthday fabric... stay tuned to see what she picked! Cass xx
